Salad Mix (Salanova)

Fun Fact!

Salanova is the name of a mix of lettuces, bred specifically for salads (single leaves fall easily from small, mature plants, with one cut at harvest). The mixes tend to “keep” a bit longer if well cared for in the fridge. Ours is made of 2 varieties of butter lettuces and 2 varieties of oak leaf lettuces.

Storage Tips: Loose-leaf lettuce will keep for 3-4 days and up to a week. Place lettuce in the refrigerator in a perforated plastic bag in the vegetable crisper section. Keep lettuce unwashed in a plastic bag in the refrigerator until you are ready to use it. Or wash the lettuce under cold water and pat dry, then store in a plastic bag with a dry paper towel to soak up excess moisture.
Store lettuce away from apples, bananas, and pears—the ethylene gas they give off will turn lettuce brown.
